GAMES DEVELOPER Bungie has shown off the gameplay trailer for Destiny, its followup to Halo.
Halo, which has spawned a number of sequels, was retired by Bungie and picked up by 343 Industries. Bungie is working with Activision on its next title.
"From the creators of Halo and the company that brought you Call of Duty, comes Destiny, an epic adventure unlike anything players have experienced," reads the caption under the trailer announcement.
The trailer shows something that looks like an epic adventure, but also one that we might have experienced before, at least in some way.
It has obvious similarities to Halo, which is probably fair, since that never broke and never needed fixing.
In Destiny humanity is presented with an enemy that has watched us for centuries while being holed up in the core of the moon.
You have to fight these, that is your destiny, and become legend. You get to shoot a variety of boomsticks at a variety of enemies and face down at least one massive end of level-looking boss.
The game is scheduled for release in the spring next year. It is not yet rated. If you are interested and pre-order the title you have a chance of taking part in the pre-release beta testing.
You will have to fall into one of two gamer camps however, and Destiny is only lined up to appeal on the Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) and Playstation 4 (PS4) and Microsoft Xbox 360 and Xbox One. Pre-order prices hover around the £55 mark.
The Destiny beta will begin in early 2014 and you can claim as many as four passes, or one for each of your four consoles. µ
