GRAPHICS SOFTWARE FIRM Adobe will take its internet connected stylus Project Mighty to production, along with its accompanying digital ruler called Project Napoleon, because it's a "shirt ruler".
The digital drawing tools were considered merely an experiment when Adobe announced them at the Adobe Max conference earlier this year. However, they soon will become the software firm's first ventures into hardware when they begin shipping in early 2014.
"Adobe is moving our cloud pen, Project Mighty and our digital ruler, Project Napoleon, from a technology exploration to a planned product," Adobe's head of its Experience design team Michael Gough announced in a blog post.
"We are teaming up with Adonit, an awesome band of makers with a shared belief in the power of creative devices paired with apps and services, to manufacture and ship Mighty and Napoleon in the first half of 2014."
The stylus and ruler are aimed at those in the design industry who are looking for companions for tablets and smartphones.
With a three-sided twist for better ergonomics during use, the stylus has a notification LED built into the end that emits a range of colours to signify things like battery status and data transfer. The stylus is encircled with sensors so it can be charged in a USB charging dock.
The Bluetooth enabled ruler works alongside the stylus so more precise angles can be drawn on touchscreen surfaces.
The digital tools have seen a few tweaks since their first appearance, including the removal of all buttons apart from one on the ruler, which can be used to switch between different tools and shapes. The Project Mighty stylus is now charged through the back instead of the front, as seen on earlier prototypes.

As part of the announcement, Adobe revealed that it has passed the one million subscriber mark for the Creative Cloud since its launch in June. µ
