GAMES PUBLISHER Activision has discussed the future upgrade options that will be available for Call of Duty: Ghosts when it launches across the upcoming next generation of consoles, the Microsoft Xbox One and the Sony Playstation 4 (PS4).
"We have been working with our retail partners and console manufacturers for the past two years on solutions to help make your transition to [the] next [generation] as seamless and easy as possible," the games publisher said in a community blog post.
Activision said that in the UK gamers will be able to buy Call of Duty: Ghosts on the PS3 or Xbox 360 when it launches later this year and then exchange the game for the PS4 or Xbox One version for a £40 trade-in at high street retail store Game. This means that they'll have to pay whatever difference up to the new game's retail price, which should in this instance be a difference of £10, allowing gamers to then go home and finish where they left off, keeping their Season Pass content, profile, and statistics with the transition.
Game said on its website that it will be making this same offer across many of the future major games releases for the upcoming consoles, for example, FIFA 2014. However, there is some small print involved, as always.
The £40 trade-in credit has to be loaded onto a Game gift card and can only be done in-store. Also, the offer won't be available for long after the launch after the new consoles, ending on Christmas eve this year.
In the US, various retail stores will be offering Call of Duty: Ghosts next generation upgrade offers, including Gamestop, Amazon, Best Buy and Microsoft.
Call of Duty: Ghosts will launch on the Xbox 360, Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) and Nintendo Wii on 5 November and is expected to sell well.
Earlier last month, Activision showed off the multiplayer action for the Call of Duty: Ghosts first person shooter, revealing that players can play as a dog, a lady, and a floating helicopter killbot. µ
