KOREAN HARDWARE MAKER Samsung's Galaxy Gear smartwatch will be priced at £299 when it goes on sale in the UK, despite costing $299 in the US.
This price is official too, as Samsung has launched a website for its Galaxy Gear smartwatch that reveals the gadget's price as £299.
This news is unlikely to go down well with UK punters, with the device priced at $299, or around £190, when it goes on sale in the US. We've done some maths, and even when VAT is added at 20 percent this brings the US price to just £230, so we're not sure where the mathematicians at Samsung found that additional £70.
Still, for those with deep pockets who have their eye on the Samsung Galaxy Gear, Samsung has revealed that it will go on sale on 25 September from its flagship Stratford City Westfield store. Those who pre-order from Samsung's website will be guaranteed a smartwatch on launch day, although we'll be surprised if the device sells out.
The website also enables buyers to pre-order the Samsung Galaxy Note 3, which features an eye-watering £649 price tag. Those after both the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy Gear smartwatch can buy both for £848, a savings of £100, although given Samsung's shoddy currency conversion rate it's not much of a savings.
There is another incentive, though. Samsung will also offer Galaxy Gear and Galaxy Note 3 buyers a £50 discount if they trade in an old smartphone, as the firm takes a tip from rival Apple's book. µ
