UK MOBILE OPERATOR EE announced on Monday that it now has one million customers on its 4G network, beating its goal of reaching that number by the end of 2013.
In April EE said that it hoped to have one million subscribers on its network by the end of the year, but today it announced that it hit its target four months early. The mobile operator boasted on Monday that hitting this landmark figure shows that the UK is among the quickest nations to adopt 4G, and claimed that it offers faster speeds than LTE networks across Europe, the US and Japan.
The firm has also released some figures about what people are doing on its 4G network. EE said that a third of its 4G users are streaming more than they would on a 3G network, and that 4G customers use their smartphones 19 percent more than those without 4G.
EE CEO Olaf Swantee said, "The UK mobile sector saw a huge shift 10 months ago with the launch of 4G from EE. We set a new standard for UK mobile networks, and the way consumers and businesses are using their mobile devices in this country has been transformed.
"We have seen one of the fastest adoption rates in the world and I'm immensely proud to announce today that we have reached a significant milestone - one million 4G customers.
"We know that all communities across Britain want 4G, not just those in the big urban centres, and we're committed to continuing to roll out superfast mobile at this record breaking pace.
"EE has the most attractive 4G pricing in the world - and we're also gearing up to launch a new range of innovative plans, providing even more ways for people to get the fastest speeds and the best value plans," Swantee added, although the network is likely to face some fierce competition when Three rolls out 4G for free later in the year.
To celebrate hitting its goal, EE isn't exactly pushing the boat out. Instead it's offering its customers 50 percent off accessory purchases up to the value of £100 across EE stores until 19 September. Yippee. µ
