JAPANESE HARDWARE MAKER Toshiba debuted its first 8in Windows tablet at IFA in Berlin on Thursday, the Toshiba Encore, which will launch in November priced at around £250.
The Toshiba Encore will arrive running Microsoft's yet to be released Windows 8.1 operating system, with the added bonus of the Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013 applications suite preinstalled on the device for free.
The 8in tablet is powered by an Intel Bay Trail Atom processor with Intel Gen 7 graphics and 2GB of RAM, and the Encore's display boasts 1280x800 resolution. The Toshiba Encore also features dual 8MP and 2MP cameras, 32GB of internal storage with a microSD card expansion slot, microUSB and microHDMI ports and WiFI connectivity.
The firm has also been keen to point out that the tablet will feature dual microphones, which will be optimised for Skype in time for the tablet's release. That will apparently take place in November, with the Encore set to be priced at around £250, though Toshiba has not announced an exact UK price.
That's not all Toshiba had up its sleeve for this year's IFA conference in Berlin. The firm also announced a duo of 2-in-1 laptop/tablet hybrids, which will also arrive running Windows 8.1.
Named the Toshiba Satellite W30t and W30Dt, the two 13.3in tablets are essentially the same device with different processors, with the devices featuring a fourth generation Intel Haswell processor or an AMD A4-APU chip, respectively. Both devices also feature an HDD with up to 500GB capacity, 4GB of RAM, an HD webcam, microHDMI and microUSB ports, a microSD card slot and Bluetooth 4.0.
The Toshiba Satellite W30t and W30Dt laptop/tablet hybrids will be available in the fourth quarter, although pricing details are still to be announced. µ
