CHINESE LAPTOP MAKER Lenovo has given its Thinkpad portfolio a revamp today, adding a "thinner and lighter" Thinkpad T440s along with the Thinkpad T440 and Thinkpad X240 to its lineup of business focused notebooks and laptops.
Lenovo's refreshed Thinkpad T440s is a fairly modest upgrade, receiving a performance boost with an Intel Haswell chip and the option of an Nvidia Geforce GT 730M GPU.
The Thinkpad T440 isn't a world apart from the Thinkpad T440s, as you'd expect, and features a comparable set of configuration options, including an optional touchscreen, up to 12GB of RAM and up to either a 1TB HDD or a 512GB SSD drive, all in a 21mm chassis.
What sets the two models apart is display resolution. While the highest resolution of the Thinkpad T440 stands at 1,600x900 on a 14in screen, the 14in Thinkpad T440s screen supports a HD 1080p 1,600x1080 resolution display in a lighter frame. The Thinkpad T440 can also include an optional integrated smart card reader for enhanced security.
Lenovo's Thinkpad X240 replaces Lenovo's previously released Thinkpad X230, which was launched last year. Targeting the professional market as a "business ready ultraportable" notebook, the Thinkpad X240 weighs just under 1.36kg and is only 20.3mm thin, featuring Intel Haswell Core i7 processors, up to 1TB of storage, a 12.5 in Full HD touchscreen display option, and a Thinkpad Precision backlit keyboard.
"The new modern design of the Thinkpad laptops delivers the performance users expect in business while eliciting the excitement and appeal of a consumer designed laptop," explained Lenovo. "This includes 20 percent thinner form factors, a variety of panel options and up to 45 percent larger trackpads with improved click functionality supporting Windows 8 gestures."
The Thinkpad T440s, Thinkpad T440 amd Thinkpad X240 will all be available from November, priced from £1,195, £859 and £999, respectively. µ
