GAMES FIRM Blizzard has taken advantage of the Gamescom event in Germany to introduce Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls, an expansion pack for the game.
Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls introduces a new player class called The Crusader and a level cap of 70.
There is a small dedicated webpage for the Reaper expansion, but it does not say much. There is a gloomy image of a doorway and a quote from the Book of Tyrael. "Death, at last, shall spread its wings over all," it says.
A five minute cinematic game introduction has been posted to the net by Blizzard. We see the spooky evil dark stone being hidden away before being pinched by someone calling himself Death and looking like Malthael. Death seems like a pretty nasty piece of work. He ices someone then sets about stealing the stone.
He is told that the Nephalem will stop him, but responds, "No one will stop Death."
Blizzard launched Diablo III on PC and Mac in May 2012. It has not announced a release date for the Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls add-on pack.
Released sooner, perhaps, will be the console versions of Diablo III on the Sony PS3 and Microsoft Xbox 360. These will be released on 3 September and promise some exclusive content called the Infernal Helm.
"[The] epic action-RPG Diablo III is coming to a new platform," said Blizzard.
"In an experience reforged specifically for the console, players will adventure through rich and varied settings, engage in combat with hordes of monsters and challenging bosses, and grow in experience and ability, all while acquiring items of incredible power." µ
