CHINESE PHONE MAKER ZTE's Open smartphone that runs the Firefox mobile operating system (OS) has sold out on eBay, with the firm shifting 990 of the handsets in the UK.
Last week ZTE announced that its Open smartphone would be sold exclusively at eBay in the UK and US, priced at just £59.99 and $79.99, respectively.
Following the announcement, the Firefox OS handset went on sale on the online auction and retail website on Friday 16 August, and ZTE has since revealed that it ran out of stock by Monday 19 August.
According to the firm's listing on eBay UK, it managed to sell 990 ZTE Open phones in just a few days here in Blighty, with another 985 sold on eBay in the US. According to the feedback the firm has recieved, the buyers are pleased with their purchases.
ZTE VP Dai Wenhong said, "It is great honor to launch the ZTE Open Firefox OS phone worldwide through eBay. ZTE is devoted to providing more options for customers globally and enabling them to live better lives via advanced technology.
"The ZTE Open offers customers a smartphone experience at an incredible price point, making it ideal for cost conscious consumers or those looking to upgrade to a smartphone for the first time."
ZTE has yet to say whether it will be adding more stock to its eBay shop, or whether the phone will be available through different channels in the UK, with no UK operators having yet announced plans to sell the Firefox OS handset.
ZTE hasn't respond to our request for comment yet, but we'll update this article when we hear more. µ
