GAMES OUTFIT Activision is showing off the multiplayer action that players of its Call of Duty: Ghosts game should expect.

The game will be released later this year, and it is expected to sell in decent numbers. Its predecessors have done well and the upcoming title has attracted a lot of buzz.

"'Call of Duty: Ghosts' continues the tradition of unrivaled gameplay and innovation that has made 'Call of Duty' one of the most engaging entertainment experiences in the world played by more than 100 million fans," said Activision CEO Eric Hirshberg.

"'Call of Duty' set the benchmark for the current gen and that's exactly what we're aiming to do for the next generation."

Microsoft's Xbox marketing people were equally breezy about the title and the multiplayer got a preview on the Xbox 360 console as a streamed broadcast.

While it has the Xbox One games console coming up in the hardware department, Microsoft will expect to shift a few copies of Call of Duty: Ghosts for the Xbox 360. This week it revealed that any season passes, buckets of extra downloadable content that can be bought in advance, will work on both the Xbox One and the Xbox 360.

Since the game will also let you customise a number of features, like gamer type and game type, users should feel assured to know that these will roll over to the newer console too.

"Since its launch on the Xbox 360, the 'Call of Duty' series has firmly established its home on the Xbox platform with the game's largest and most engaged community," said Yusuf Mehdi, corporate VP for marketing and strategy in the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft.

"With the debut of Xbox One later this fall, we have no doubt that our longtime partners, Activision and Infinity Ward will raise the bar higher than ever before for this incredible franchise in 'Call of Duty: Ghosts' and look forward to add-on content again coming first, exclusively to Xbox."

What do we learn from the video? Well, a lot. You get to see the weapons and examples of what are probably the best ways of using them. You can also play as a dog, a lady, and a floating helicopter killbot.

A new mode of play, called Squads, brings six players together and lets them play a variety of game types, including one on one and larger team battles.

"This is the biggest overhaul of multiplayer since the original 'Call of Duty: Modern Warfare,'" added Infinity Ward executive producer Mark Rubin.

"We're pouring our hearts and souls into making 'Call of Duty: Ghosts' multiplayer the best it can be on next [generation] and current [generation consoles] alike. With all the customization options, our new Create-a-Soldier system, dynamic map events, new perks and killstreaks, tactical player animations, new Squads mode, Clan support in-game and on second screen, it's the complete online experience."

Call of Duty: Ghosts will launch on the Xbox 360, Sony Playstation 3 (PS3) and Nintendo Wii on 5 November this year. µ
