CHINESE PHONE MAKER ZTE has announced that it will sell its ZTE Open Firefox OS smartphone exclusively on eBay in the US and UK.
The ZTE Open isn't available to buy on eBay yet, nor has ZTE said why it's planning to offer the phone through the online auction website. Still, the firm has said that the ZTE Open will be available to buy soon for £59.99 and that it will be unlocked for use on any UK network.
ZTE VP Dai Wenhong said, "It is great honor to launch the ZTE Open Firefox OS phone worldwide through eBay. ZTE is devoted to providing more options for customers globally and enabling them to live better lives via advanced technology.
"The ZTE Open offers customers a smartphone experience at an incredible price point, making it ideal for cost conscious consumers or those looking to upgrade to a smartphone for the first time."
As you can imagine, for £59.99, the ZTE Open isn't a high-end device, running Mozilla's Firefox OS designed for budget handsets. The handset features a 3.5in 320x480 touchscreen powered by a 1GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and 256MB of RAM.
There's also a 3.15MP rear-facing camera, 2GB of internal storage expandable via microSD card, HSDPA and WiFi connectivity, a 1,200mAh battery, and blue and orange colour variants.
With Mozilla's HTML5 based Firefox OS mobile operating system onboard, users will also get most of the usual smartphone features, including the added bonus of a Firefox web browser and Nokia's Here mapping service. µ
