Amazon’s informal poll dubs Skyrim the best game ever

The Last of Us is a close second

SWORDS AND WANDERING GAME Skyrim is the best game ever, according to a gamers poll carried out by game flogger Amazon.

This weekend the Amazon website carried out a sort of online game battle royale. It took 16 most voted for titles and then began to whittle them down.

Top of the tree is Bethesda's open world epic The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim. Second is the recently released Playstation only The last of Us, which is pretty good for a solo console game.

Another console exclusive is on the list, and that belongs to Nintendo and the classic Super Mario Galaxy. Amazon might have got confused here. "The Wii's Super Mario Galaxy was the most popular console exclusive, ahead of the PS3's Uncharted 2," it said, presumably having already forgotten The Last of Us.

Unfortunately for Japanese Italian moustached plumbers everywhere, Mario Galaxy came up against Skyrim in the first round, and the rest, as they say, is history.

There were two gaming streams with eight games in each. In the first league were Skyrim, Mario, Bioshock, Mass Effect 2, Call of Duty 4, Uncharted 2, Portal 2 and Batman Arkham City.

Lining up against these were The Last of Us, Metal Gear Solid 4, the Walking Dead, Far Cry 3, Fallout 3, Red Dead Redemption, Grand Theft Auto IVand Bioshock Infinite.

Lurking outside this top 16 were Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood, which needed just one more vote to be considered for contention, and Army of Two, which ironically got only one vote.

A number of downloadable games scored highly, according to Amazon, including Limbo, Far Cry 3: Blood Dragon, and the PS3's multi-award winning Journey. µ
