FINNISH PHONE MAKER Nokia's Lumia 1020 smartphone will cost £549.98 in the UK, retailer Unlocked Mobiles has revealed.

Up to now we had no idea how much the Nokia Lumia 1020 will cost, with Clove kicking off its preorders without revealing the handset's price. Unlocked Mobiles, however, has started taking preorders for the phone for the price of £549.98 SIM-free, cheaper than we had been expecting given the handset's hefty price in the US and its extravagant camera components.

Unlocked Mobiles also promised to start shipping the phone in September, but has yet to announce the release date.

The handset, which is already available in the US, was launched at a glitzy New York event in July, with Nokia touting the Lumia 1020 as the best camera phone available on the market. That's thanks to its 41MP rear-facing camera, which comes with technology such as Carl Zeiss optics, both Xenon and LED flash and optical image stabilization.

That's not all the Nokia Lumia 1020 has going for it. Running Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 mobile operating system, the smartphone features the usual array of Nokia apps, including its Nokia Pro camera application. Running apps should be pretty nippy too, as the phone has a dual-core 1.5GHz processor and 2GB of RAM.

Other specifications include a 4.5in HD 720p AMOLED touchscreen, a 1.2MP video call camera, 32GB of internal storage, 4G LTE support and a 2,000mAh battery.
