CHINESE PHONE MAKER Huawei unveiled the Ascend P6 in London on Tuesday, a handset that it claims is the world's thinnest smartphone.
Announced at a glitzy launch event in Camden town that The INQUIRER attended, the Huawei Ascend P6 measures a mere 6.18mm thick, revealing the inspiration behind the handset's name.
Huawei CEO Richard Yu joked, "Some people are joking with me, and asked whether we called it the Ascend P6 to compete with the iPhone 6. We didn't - it's because it's 6mm thick."
To be fair, those people had a point, as the handset looks a lot like the Apple iPhone 5, featuring an aluminium frame housing the phone's antenna, which looks almost identical to that of Apple's smartphone.
The Huawei Ascend P6 smartphone isn't all about looks, however. The handset features a 4.7in HD 720p touchscreen powered by Google's Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean mobile operating system, a Huawei quad-core 1.5GHz K3V2+ processor and 2GB of RAM, as the firm challenges the Samsung Galaxy S4's hardware specifications.
The Ascend P6 also looks to challenge Samsung's user interface (UI), as it is skinned with Huawei's Emoticon UI. This provides the phone with Huawei's Imagesmart camera software that offers several editing tools, which the firm claims make for better images than those taken on both the Samsung Galaxy S4 and iPhone 5 and can make people look "more beautiful".
Set to be released in both black and white models, again like Apple's iPhone 5, as well as pink, the handset also features an 8MP rear-facing camera, a mammoth 5MP front-facing camera, 3G connectivity and 8GB of internal storage expandable via microSD card.
Huawei has said that the Ascend P6 will be available in the UK by the end of July on multiple mobile operators including O2, Three and EE, priced at around £400 SIM-free and about £25 per month on contract.
