Amazon prices the Xbox One and PS4 at £600

Merry Christmas everybody

ONLINE RETAILER Amazon is taking preorders for the PS4 and Xbox One games consoles and has stamped a £599.99 price on them.

The smoke is still clearing from the Xbox One launch, and we are waiting for more details from Sony on it's PS4. A lot of information is expected to be revealed at E3 in June.

We've already seen the Xbox One appear at Zavvi with a jaw-dropping preorder price of £399. Amazon has bested this, offering an Xbox One console with Kinect - something apparently lacking from the Zavvi deal - for a penny shy of £600. In the same listing Amazon offered the PS4, also for preorder, for the same money.

£599.99 will buy a lot these days. It will buy two premium Nintendo Wii consoles, and leave enough change to buy some pizzas. Alternatively you could buy six Android based Ouya games consoles or about eight Gamesticks.

Amazon isn't guaranteeing that both consoles will cost that much when they are released, and advised punters that they won't have to pay any money until the hardware starts shipping.

"Please note that there are no official prices announced for Xbox One [and Playstation 4] products," it added in a disclaimer.

"The price stated above is a placeholder. With our Pre-order Price Guarantee, you can order now and if the price decreases between the time you place your order and the release date, you'll be charged the lowest price."

Both next generation games consoles are expected to go on sale before the end of this year. µ
