Hits milestone in less than a month

KOREAN PHONE MAKER Samsung has announced that it shifted 10 million Galaxy S4 handsets in less than one month, and to celebrate has introduced an additional range of colours.

It appears the rumours were right, as Samsung announced on Thursday that its Galaxy S4 has hit the 10 million shipped milestone just weeks after its release on 27 April. This pace puts the Galaxy S4's predecessors, the Galaxy S2 and S3, in the shade, as they took five months and two months to reach the same level of sales, respectively.

Samsung also  said that the handset is available in more than 110 countries, and will gradually be rolled out to 45 more.

It's worth noting that hitting this milestone doesn't necessarily mean that there are 10 million Samsung Galaxy S4 smartphones in the hands of consumers, as Samsung announced the number of units shipped to retailers and operators.

Samsung CEO JK Shin said, "On behalf of Samsung, I would like to thank the millions of customers around the world who have chosen the Samsung Galaxy S4. At Samsung we'll continue to pursue innovation inspired by and for people."

To celebrate hitting 10 million sales, Samsung has introduced a handful of new Samsung Galaxy S4 models. These include Red Aurora, Purple Mirage and Brown Autumn, apparently because everybody wants a brown smartphone, right? These new models will be available from summer, although it's still unclear if they will all be released in the UK.
