CHINESE PHONE MAKER Huawei's Ascend Mate smartphone has arrived in the UK, priced at £334.99.
Huawei's Ascend Mate smartphone that was unveiled at this year's Consumer Electronics Show is in the same league as the Samsung Galaxy Mega, touting a mammoth 6.1in 1280x800 touchscreen for those after a phone and a tablet in one.
As well as a very large screen, the Huawei Ascend Mate also features a quad-core 1.5GHz processor and Google's Android 4.1 mobile operating system that comes skinned with Huawei's Emotion user interface, which features a raft of preloaded apps and themes. Perhaps the most interesting thing about the device, however, is that it's the fastest 4G phone presently on the market, capable of handling 150Mbit/s download speeds.
There's also an 8MP rear-facing camera, a 1MP front-facing camera, 2GB of RAM, a 4,050 mAh battery that Huawei claims offers up 22 hours of talk time, and the usual array of connectivity options.
If you find those specifications appealing, the Huawei Ascend Mate can be ordered from UK electronics retailer Expansys. The device is priced at just £334.99, much cheaper than Samsung's 6.3in Galaxy Mega, and the handset is available now. However, it seems that Expansys isn't expecting to sell very many Ascend Mate smartphones, as it will order the device especially for those who order.
