The difference between [the P4] and the [Athlon] die size is frigging huge - AMD's Jerry Sanders III
JAPANESE GAMING HOUSE Sony will not confirm that it is about to announce the next installment in its drive very fast game, Gran Turismo.
The release, which will be the sixth in a series, is expected to be announced this month, and possibly on 15 May.
Sony could not confirm this to us, but apparently some invitations have gone out for the event already.
The event apparently will be hosted at the Silverstone race track and could feature such luminaries as series designer Kazunori Yamachi.
Gran Turismo appeared in 1997 and is in its 16th year as a game now. It is firmly a Playstation exclusive. The talk is that this game will appear soon on the PS3, but it is far more likely that it is being primed for Sony's next generation console, the PS4.
The first game took five years to complete, having been started on by Yamachi in 1992. The last version, Gran Turismo 5, was released in 2010. It has over 81 tracks, which is a huge leap from the 11 that the debut title offered.
Forum Neogaf has a copy of the invitation, and Sony has released a video to celebrate the 15 year anniversary.
The invitation promises that the May Silverstone event will be both a celebration of the game titles and a look at their future. A Twitter hashtag, #15yearsofGT is also mentioned. Fans of the game are advised to keep one eye on that and one on the road.
As Sony said, "Something big is happening at Silverstone on 15 May." µ
