A KEYRING SIZED GADGET that claims to be the world's smallest phone charger has galloped past its Kickstarter target of $20,000.
The charger, branded as the Devotec Fuel Micro Charger, has attracted almost $35,000 on the crowdfunding website in less than eight days, and will now head to manufacturing.
It sounds like a pretty nifty gadget to have, so we're not surprised that it has done so well. Described as an "emergency back up", the aluminum charger provies smartphones with 20 to 30 minutes of extra talk time or a few hours on standby.
What's more impressive though is the charger's size, as it measures just 1.3x0.9x0.5in. It might be small but the gadget can easily be recharged and is able to keep its charge for a month before you'll need to plug it in again.
The only downside of the gadget is that it can't provide iPhone users with any extra juice, as it comes with only a microUSB connector. However, an iPhone version is in the works and 200 people have backed the firm on Kickstarter to develop a version for the Apple smartphone.
Devotec, the US firm behind the gadget is understandably chuffed with the warm reception the Fuel Micro Charger has received.
It said, "A big thank you to everyone who has pledged and supported us so far! We are already more than a third of the way to our goal, after less than 48 hours live. This is great stuff!
"The support from the Kickstarter community has been fantastic and we are well on our way to putting Fuel into production."
Once on store shelves, the Fuel Micro Charger will fetch $24.99. There's no word on a UK release yet. µ
