TAIWANESE HARDWARE MAKER Asus will release its massive 7in Fonepad smartphone in the UK next month, Carphone Warehouse has revealed.
The UK retailer has given us our first glimpse of a release date for the Fonepad, having added a placeholder for the device on its Coming Soon webpage alongside an April release date. Carphone Warehouse has also revealed that it also be stocking the Asus Memo Pad next month as well as the Samsung Galaxy Note 8.0.
There's no word on pricing for the Asus Fonepad yet, although a quick search on Google Shopping found that it will probably fetch around £250.
The Asus Fonepad was announced at this year's Mobile World Congress alongside the Asus Padfone Infinity. Like Samsung's Galaxy Note 8.0, the device takes the term 'phablet' to a whole new level, as despite measuring 7in, the Fonepad is capable of making phone calls - potentially eliminating the need for separate smartphone and tablet devices.
The Fonepad is fairly similar to the Google Nexus 7. Its 7in screen boasts 1280x800 resolution and it comes powered by a 1.2GHz Intel Atom processor. The device also runs Google's Android 4.1 Jelly Bean mobile operating system skinned with Asus' light custom skin.
The Fonepad also features 3MP and 1.2MP cameras, either 8GB or 16GB of internal storage with the ability to expand via microSD card, HSDPA and WiFi connectivity and a 4,270mAh battery.
