VOICE RECOGNITION FIRM Nuance has announced an update to its speech recognition software, Dragon Naturallyspeaking 12.
Dragon version 12.5 now features integration with all aspects of the Microsoft Windows 8 operating system (OS), including the tiled Start menu interface and full-screen applications, which previously weren't supported in version 12.0.
Nuance regional sales director Neil Grant told The INQUIRER that the Dragon software features a new toolbar that lets you use it across all aspects of the full version of Windows 8 on any device. Dictation can be captured whenever the cursor is flashing.
The update also brings enhanced support for Microsoft Office 2013 and Microsoft Internet Explorer 10.
"For any users that are buying brand new machines they have full support and are up to date with Microsoft release cycles," Grant explained. "Also, there's increased support for Outlook.com. [Dragon 12] already supports the Outlook application. Outlook.com is now supported in addition to Gmail and Hotmail."
However, Windows RT users wanting to take advantage of Nuance's latest software are still left in the dark, as it will only run on full versions of the Microsoft Windows 8 OS.
Grant explained that there are two reasons for this. "The first is physical power of devices running Windows RT, which are similar to specs found on netbooks," he explained. "Secondly, Windows RT's infrastructure is not designed to run in that department."
Launched in July of 2012, Dragon 12 features a 20 percent improvement to accuracy, faster performance and new features like Smart Format Rules that make Dragon more productive, Nuance claims.
Owners of Dragon 12 in all languages will automatically get a free software update via a digital download notification, or by selecting "Check for Updates" in the Help tab of the Dragonbar.
For new customers, the updated Premium 12 English edition is available now for £149.99. Additional editions and languages will be available over the coming weeks, Nuance said. µ
