Sony's Xperia SP comes with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean

JAPANESE PHONE MAKER Sony's newly announced Xperia SP and Xperia L smartphones have been promptly priced ahead of their UK release next month.

That's thanks to SIM-free mobile retailer Clove, which has revealed that the two latest Sony midrange smartphones will go on sale towards the end of April. Both the Xperia SP and Xperia L are available to preorder now, priced at £322.80 and £234, respectively.

Those are not bad prices considering the phones' specifications, which include Google's Android 4.1 Jelly Bean mobile operating system and Sony's own custom user interface.

The Sony Xperia SP is the more exciting of the two, featuring a 4.6in HD screen and a Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core 1.7GHz processor. The phone, which Clove is offering in both black and white, also comes with an 8MP camera with Exmor RS sensor, battery 'stamina' mode, integrated NFC, 8GB of internal expandable storage and support for 4G LTE.

The Sony Xperia L offers a more affordable alternative, featuring a downsized 4.3in FWVGA screen and a less powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon dual-core 1GHz processor. That's not to say it's a bad phone though, as there's also an 8MP camera, NFC and 8GB of internal expandable storage.

Sony said, "The Xperia SP delivers 4G LTE performance and an exceptional viewing experience, with a razor sharp HD screen housed in a beautiful design. The Xperia L provides class leading camera technology with HDR for both photos and videos complemented by a high quality screen."

There's no word on exact release dates for the handsets yet, but we've contacted Sony for more information. µ
