CULT FILM SERIES Star Wars wants consumer input on who is the best character in the six films.

It's easy to answer of course, it is the The Great Pit of Carkoon, but for some reason he or she is not represented in the March Madness sweepstakes offered by the Star Wars website.

What you can do is vote for your favourite Star Wars character and watch as the weakest get whittled out and the strongest survive. Ultimately there will be one winner and that's going to be either Boba Fett or Han Solo anyway.

"It's a showdown between the Light Side and Dark Side in the first This Is Madness tournament! Vote for your favorite Jedi, Sith, scoundrel, Rebel, or bounty hunter and help decide who is, once and for all, the galaxy's most popular Star Wars character," says the firm on its website.

"The first round begins on Monday, March 18! Cast your votes and come back every day for new matchups and results, and be sure to visit us on Tuesday, April 9, to see who will be named winner of This Is Madness!"

It all kicks off now and people are voting on whether they like like Han Solo more than they like Lando Calrissian. That's a tough choice, but we see it going Solo's way.

The other big head to head contest is whether Darth Vader is better than General Grievous. Anyone who thinks the latter is the best needs to go and stand in a corner. This is a win win win for the man in black, say the bookies.

Other interesting head to heads include Obi-Wan Kenobi taking on Qui-Gon Jinn, Boba Fett versus Dengar, Luke Skywalker against Wedge Antilles, and Chewbacca squaring up to Wicket, one of the perennially popular Ewoks.

It's very hard to call the way those will fall. But we reckon it will be the formers that make it through to round two. There they will square off again, until Star Wars announces a winner in early April.

One of the candidates, a certain Mr Vader, has a compelling campaign message and summary of the rules. You can enjoy it below. µ
