There was an immeasurable distance between the quick and the dead: they did not seem to belong to the same species; and it was strange to think that but a little while before they had spoken and moved and eaten and laughed - W. Somerset Maugham
ONLINE BOOKSELLER Amazon announced plans today to bring its 8.9in Kindle Fire, the imaginitively named Amazon Kindle Fire 8.9, to the UK.
The Amazon Kindle Fire 8.9 was announced alongside Amazon's other tablets, but we weren't interested in it at the time because the firm said it had no plans for a UK release. That's changed today though as Amazon announced that the Kindle Fire 8.9 will come to the UK, five months after making its US debut.
Dave Limp, VP of Amazon's Kindle division said, "We're thrilled with customer reaction to Kindle Fire HD 8.9". Customers tell us they love our large-screen version of Kindle Fire HD for web browsing, email, gaming, watching TV shows, reading magazines, and more."
Amazon is really spoiling us though. Not only will us Brits be able to browse the web and play games on the firm's 8.9in Kindle Fire tablet, it has also cut the price of the device around the globe, so it will be available for £229 for the 16GB version and £259 for the 32GB model.
"As we expand Kindle Fire HD 8.9" to Europe and Japan, we've been able to increase our production volumes and decrease our costs. Across our business at Amazon, whenever we are able to create cost efficiencies like this, we want to pass the savings along to our customers."
As well as an 8.9in screen, Amazon's latest UK bound tablet features a front-facing HD camera, a 10 hour battery life and access to the Amazon App Store.
Amazon's Kindle Fire 8.9 is available from Amazon as well Currys, Tesco and Waterstones. µ
