US COMPUTER MAKER Dell announced an all in one (AIO) PC today, the XPS 18, with a detachable display that turns it into an 18in tablet.
Dell claims the XPS 18 is the thinnest AIO PC on the market, measuring 18mm thick and weighing 2.2kg.
Preloaded with Windows 8 Professional, the Dell XPS 18 has an 18in full HD display with 10 point multi-touch capability and 90 degree viewing angles from the sides. On the inside there's a choice Intel third generation Core processors, up to 8GB of RAM and a hybrid solid state disk (SSD) and hard disk drive (HDD) setup.
On the left hand side of the XPS 18 are two USB 3.0 ports, a volume control and a 3.5mm audio jack.
On the back of the Dell XPS 18 are two kickstands so that the powered stand doesn't have to be hooked up to the screen in order for that to be viewed on a hard surface.
Dell claims that the XPS 18 is a consumer focused device, aiming it at families who spend a lot of time in the living room and would perhaps share the computer for a variety of activities.
The XPS 18 will ship in April starting from £849 for the model with an Intel Core i5 chip and 4GB of RAM. The most powerful model with an Intel Core i7 processor and 8GB of RAM will set you back £1049.
Thrown in with the Dell XPS 18 are a Bluetooth powered keyboard and mouse for use at a desk.
