CHARITABLE COMPUTING OUTFIT the Raspberry Pi Foundation has created a blue, one year anniversary edition of the pocket computer.

The Raspberry Pi is a year old and has sold one million units and counting. If that isn't a reason to release a collector's edition in a different colour with a certificate, we do not know what is.

"To celebrate our first anniversary, RS Components, one of our two main manufacturing distributors, are releasing a limited edition of 1000 blue Raspberry Pis. These Pis are very cute: there's something really handsome about that blue," says a blog post from the foundation's Liz Upton.

"They come with a certificate of authenticity signed by Eben and a matching blue case from One Nine Design in Wales; and blue, as drinkers of Slush Puppy should be aware, is the canonical colour of raspberry flavouring. (Do not eat this Pi.)"

You can't buy the blue Raspberry Pi, but you might be able to win one. "There's a catch. You won't be able to buy these Pis," adds Upton.

"The majority of them are being donated to charitable causes involving kids and education. But some are also being held back as competition prizes, and you can win one yourself."

It looks like there are ways to win them as prizes. Starting today, and running for four weeks is a Twitter competition that requires that participants tweet the hashtag #bluepi to @RSElectronics along with a suggestion for the use of a blue Raspberry Pi, or a great Raspberry Pi design idea.

Every week for four weeks, 10 people with good ideas will win a blue Raspberry Pi. Once that is over, other competitions will run until June. µ
