Asus Transformer Pad TF300 gets Android 4.2 Jelly Bean

TAIWANESE HARDWARE OUTFIT Asus announced on Monday that it has started rolling out Android 4.2 Jelly Bean to its Asus Transformer Pad TF300, making it the first non-Nexus device to receive the update.

Asus said that the Android 4.2 Jelly Bean update is rolling out now in the US and is set to arrive in other regions including the UK later this month.

This makes the Transformer Pad only the fourth device to receive the update to Google's latest mobile operating system, following in the footsteps of the Google Nexus 4, Nexus 7 and Nexus 10 devices.

An Asus spokesperson said, "Asus is committed to providing the best customer experience, and is the first manufacturer to receive Android 4.2 for partnered tablets."

Android 4.2 Jelly Bean will furnish the Asus Tranformer Pad with expandable notifications and lock screen widgets, and Asus said, "This new version of Android enhances performance and stability, improves the user experience with new features as well as providing multiple user account logins."

Asus said the Transformer Pad Infinity, Memo Pad Smart 10 and Memo Pad will also be updated to Android 4.2 Jelly Bean during the second quarter, although it was not more specific about timing.

We're assuming that Asus' latest devices, the Fonepad and Padfone Infinity, will also be added to the firm's list of devices running Android 4.2 Jelly Bean, as both were unveiled at MWC running that. This is yet to be confirmed, but we've contacted Asus for further information. µ
