BARCELONA, CHINESE PHONE MAKER Huawei announced the Ascend P2 smartphone at Mobile World Congress on Sunday.
According to the firm, the Huawei Ascend P2 is the fastest and most advanced LTE smartphone on the market to date, following in the footsteps of the 4G enabled Ascend P1.
Huawei CEO Richard Yu said, "The Huawei Ascend P2 is the first smartphone in the world that can reach 150Mbit/s download speeds and 520Kbit/s upload speeds."
It's not all about the handset's high-speed connectivity, though. The Huawei Ascend P2, which measures a mere 8.4mm thick, also arrives running Google's Android 4.1.2 mobile operating system, which comes skinned in Huawei's custom Emotion 1.6 user interface.
While this is fairly obtrusive compared to Huawei's rivals' custom skins, the firm had added a few of its own features such as cloud storage and Airshare support for wirelessly sharing content with your tablet and TV.
There's also a quad-core 1.5GHz processor under the bonnet to keep things ticking along, as well as 16GB of internal storage and 1GB RAM. The screen is another highlight, measuring 4.7in and featuring 1280x720 resolution, and also what Huawei claims is the most sensitive responsiveness on a smartphone yet - even when you operate the phone using gloves.
Yu added, "Not only does it have fast LTE speeds, the Huawei Ascend P2 also has the most sensitive screen on the market, even when compared to the iPhone 5 and Samsung Galaxy S3."
The Huawei Ascend P2 also features a 13MP rear-facing camera, as the firm looks to challenge Nokia and Sony in the camera phone market, along with NFC technology and a mammoth 2,420mAh battery.
Huawei said the Ascend P2 will be available globally from the second quarter of 2013, priced at around £300, as the firm looks to lure customers away from its more expensive rivals.
