IPHONE DESIGNER Sir Jony Ive has received possibly the greatest award of his career: a gold Blue Peter badge.
In a special, gadget-focused episode of the long-running BBC kids show that will air on 16 February at 10am Ive joins David Beckham and the Queen in being awarded a gold Blue Peter badge for his role in inspiring children around the world.
After being asked to judge childrens' efforts at designing an all-in-one lunchbox, schoolbag and pencil case, presenter Barney Harwood presents Ive, a lifelong Blue Peter fan, with the badge that only 1,000 people have been given.
Ive says, "That's absolutely incredible, thank you so much. Very, very gratetful - it means an awful lot. Wow," before cracking an uncharacteristic grin.
Ewan Vinnicombe, acting editor of Blue Peter said, "Sir Jonathan Ive is an inspiration to children around the world and we were ecstatic to hear his comments and design advice to our viewers who will remember such feedback for a lifetime."
Clearly not one to not return the favour, Ive presents the Barney with a giant aluminum Blue Peter badge that took 10 hours to craft. µ
