A MOBILE PHONE INSURANCE FIRM has rather kindly reminded us about the importance of insuring your mobile and making a claim on it if it breaks.
The benevolent Mobileinsurance.co.uk says that it has noticed a rise in the number of claims on broken screens and wanted to know the state of the market.
It found that a quarter of iPhone users are using Apple iPhone handsets with broken or cracked screens just because they "hadn't got round" to getting their phone fixed, and that a third probably couldn't be bothered to fix it anyway. Far be it for us to mention the extortionate rates charged to replace iPhone screens at this point.
"Screen breakages on all models of the iPhone are commonplace, so the number of people admitting to using their handset with a cracked or smashed display wasn't so much of a shock. However, it is a surprise to see that the average person with a broken screen on their iPhone has been putting up with it for six months," said Jason Brockman, director at Mobileinsurance.co.uk.
"Protecting your iPhone in the first place, both with a good insurance policy and a protective cover, is the best option to avoid paying out a huge chunk of money if you drop your phone face down on the pavement."
The mobile insurance company said that it polled 2,471 iPhone owners from around the UK and asked them about the conditions of their handsets. The majority of respondents said that their phone was in average condition, and around a quarter, 23 percent, said that their screen was broken, smashed or cracked in some way.
While you might think that the most popular answer might be "I can't afford it" since it is not cheap to replace a screen, "Haven't got round to it" with 32 percent was the most frequent response. "Not insured" was second with 24 percent, and "Can't afford it" was third with 21 percent. Just below that with 19 percent was "It's broken, but bearable". µ
