Android 4.x Jelly Bean is on 13.6 percent of devices

SOFTWARE DEVELOPER Google has reported its latest Android mobile operating system (OS) usage figures, revealing that the last major version, Android 4.x Jelly Bean now has nearly 14 percent market share.

Google released the figures on its Android developers' website in a dashboard of figures from the two weeks ending 4 February 2013. The data is based on the number of Android devices that accessed Google Play within that period.

Android 4.x Jelly Bean users are split into two camps. Those who are on Android 4.1 and those that use Android 4.2. Most of them, 12.2 percent, use the former, while 1.2 percent have picked up the latter. The total number of Android 4.x Jelly Bean users has increased from the 6.7 percent seen in December 2012.

The Android 2.3 Gingerbread version of Google's mobile OS has the biggest share of users with around 45 percent. Next is Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich, which has 29 percent, while 1.3 percent of devices run Android 3.0 Honeycomb and 8.1 percent run Android 2.2 Froyo.

Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich usage has stayed more or less the same since the last time the figures were announced in December.

Android 2.3 Gingerbread's market share has fallen by around two percent since the last outing and Android 2.2 Froyo usage has declined by around one percent. µ
