BRITISH BROADCASTER Channel 4 has finally brought its 4oD on demand television streaming service to the Android operating system.
A fresh new app is available in the Google Play store from Channel 4 now, and will soon be released through the Samsung App Store.
"We're pleased to be able to extend our successful video-on-demand service to this range of modern Android devices with a dedicated 4oD app. Users will now be able to catch up on their favourite Channel 4 shows and enjoy many more classics from the Channel 4 archive via their smartphones and tablets," said Sarah Milton, head of video on demand at Channel 4.
"This development continues our ongoing strategy of widening access to 4oD, with particular emphasis on supporting the increasing numbers of users who want to watch our programmes on portable devices."
The release of the app means that anyone that wants to can catch up on a month's worth of programming from Channel 4. The on demand app was already available on other hardware, including Microsoft's XBox 360 games console, but so far Channel 4 had skirted away from devices running the Google operating system.
The app will let you catch up and gorge on Channel 4 programming, and it offers access to an extensive catalogue including shows like The IT Crowd.
4oD for Android will work on any Android device running Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich or above. It is particularly optimised for the Google Nexus 7, Google Nexus S, Google Nexus 4, Samsung Galaxy S3, HTC Desire S and Samsung Galaxy Tab 2 10.1.
