GAMES CONSOLE MAKER Sony has teased the world with an event to be held this February that will say something about the Playstation.

We don't know what yet. We can surmise that it has something to do with the firm's games console.

A holding page on Sony's website will let you sign up to receive information on what is happening, but otherwise the information is limited to the time and date, 6pm (EST) on 25 February.

A video 44 seconds long is flashy and tells you nothing. You can enjoy that below.

For now, what Sony will announce is the subject of speculation. Sony is probably due to announce new hardware. It stopped producing the Playstation 2 earlier this year and late last year revealed it had sold70 million Playstation 3 consoles, which it launched over half a decade ago.

The Dow Jones newswire has spoken to people that are said to be close to what is happening and has confirmed that the announcement will concern the Playstation 4. It said that the hardware will be out later this year, or around the same time as we might expect the Xbox 720.

It is possible that Sony will show off the hardware, games, controllers, motion sensors, moon-on-a-stick in February, just so it has the jump on Microsoft and its device.

Microsoft has hinted that it will announce the Xbox 720 in June at E3. µ
