STREAMING TV AND FILM SERVICE Netflix has published its ISP rankings for the UK and Ireland.

Netflix places Richard Branson's Virgin Media at the top of its list for fast delivery. It said that the figures it provides are a guide to speeds, adding that in most cases broadband speeds are higher than those quoted.

"Our 30 million members view over a billion hours of Netflix per month and we use all of the data associated with their experiences to compare ISPs in terms of real world performance," said Joris Evers, director of Global Corporate Communications at Netflix

"These relative rankings are a good indicator of the consistent performance typically experienced across all users on an ISP network and a great way to see which ISPs offer the best Netflix experience."

Virgin Media tops the list with an average speed of 2.16 Mbit/s, down slightly from the 2.24Mbit/s that its users apparently enjoyed in November.

Second place in both months is 02 with an average of 2.03 Mbit/s, last month it was 2.11 Mbit/s, and third is BT which gives its users 2.02 Mbit/s.

On mobile Vodafone and O2 offer the best performance, both in December and November and their users have seen an average of 0.51Mbit/s.

Netflix's figures do not reflect an accurate speed test at any particular location, of course. µ
