FRENCH ELECTRONICS FIRM Archos has announced a nifty gadget named TV Connect that turns any HDTV into an Android powered smart TV, providing the Android operating system via a TV Touch remote.
What Archos calls "the first and only" of its kind, TV Connect allows you to control your TV just like a tablet via tap, swipe, zoom in, zoom out controls. It also lets users play games, stream videos, email friends or surf the web all from their big screen TV.
Controlled by a TV Touch remote, the device allows you to control your TV just like you would your tablet, with tapping and swiping motions. It has full multi-touch gesture support and a full QWERTY keyboard with Android shortcut keys, including a key for voice controls and voice typing.
Archos' founder Henri Crohas said the reason behind the launch of the TV Connect device is that the firm wanted to "create a bigger, better way to enjoy Android" and provide users "with a multi-touch, multi-media Smart TV experience".
Archos TV Connect is also equipped with an HD webcam for HD video calling and is compatible with all the major video calling apps such as Skype and Google Talk.
Archos' TV Connect runs Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and will be available starting in February for £99. µ
