Iphone and Ipad users hit with Do Not Disturb bug

IPHONE AND IPAD USERS had a more peaceful New Year's Day than they might have been expecting, as Apple's Do Not Disturb feature was hit with a bug that caused it not to turn off.

Do Not Disturb was introduced along with IOS 6 last year, and it allows users to set a period during the day when all alerts are automatically silenced, be they texts, calls or emails. However, yesterday the feature was hit with a bug in that it didn't turn off when it was supposed to.

On Apple's support forums users are moaning that the bug hit again this morning, 2 January, and that there's no easy fix to get around the problem. 

One user said, "Failed to turn off for the 2nd day. IOS 6 really is Apple Vista."

Apple has responded to the issue, although its response wasn't particularly helpful. It said, "Some people are reporting problems with the "Do Not Disturb" feature. If you want to turn off 'Do not Disturb', go to Settings > Notifications > Do Not Disturb and slide 'Scheduled' to OFF."

There's no word on a fix for the bug, and Apple has yet to respond to our request for comment. However, it is thought that the bug is only occuring on IOS 6 native devices, such as the Iphone 5 and Ipad Mini. 

This isn't the first time that Apple has struggled with the New Year. Last year, users were hit with a bug such that their alarm didn't go off in the morning, a problem that made many of us late for work. Ahem.

Apple has said that it will not be fixing the Do Not Disturb bug, instead promising that it will fix itself.

In a statement, the Iphone maker said, "Do Not Disturb scheduling feature will resume normal functionality after January 7, 2013. Before this date, you should manually turn the Do Not Disturb feature on or off." µ
