CES: Harman announces Quantumlogic 3D in-car audio technology

LAS VEGAS: AUTOMOTIVE ENTERTAINMENT FIRM Harman announced Quantumlogic 3D at CES in Las Vegas today, a technology that brings three-dimensional surround sound to in-car audio.

Harman said the new system is built on its patented Quantumlogic Surround technology, which was first announced in 2011, to create an "unmatched" three-dimensional sound experience in cars.

According to the firm, Quantumlogic 3D uses proprietary algorithms to extract audio streams from music - such as vocals and different instruments - which is then assigned to appropriate speaker locations depending on the listening environment to create a 3D sound experience.

"QLS-3D technology is compatible with mono, stereo, and multi-channel content and creates a natural three-dimensional sound field without the artificial effects used by competitive surround sound technologies," Harman explained.

Sachin Lawande, EVP and co-president of Lifestyle and Infotainment at Harman said, "Our extensive experience in digital signal processing for home and automotive applications, the accuracy of the QLS-3D algorithm and its ability to create an entirely new listening experience uniquely positions Harman as a leader in three-dimensional surround."
