INTERNET PORTAL Yahoo today announced an overhaul of its Flickr IOS app in a bid to challenge hipster photo sharing market leader Instagram.
Yahoo unveiled the overhauled Flickr app on Wednesday, an app that hasn't been updated since December 2011 but which now comes complete with Instagram-style image filters.
Yahoo boasted, "We know that some of your best photo moments happen on the fly, so we've made it easier to get the perfect shot when inspiration hits.
"Once you get the shot, there's a built-in editor to quickly correct, crop, or enhance it with one of the new high res filters."
That's not all the updated app has pinched from Instagram, as you can now share your images from Flickr via Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr or email. Flickr is also promising to keep the quality of your original images, so you shouldn't be embarrassed by sharing suddenly fuzzy snapshots with friends.
This move doesn't come as much of a surprise. Ever since Marissa Mayer took over as Yahoo CEO earlier this year people have called upon her to save Flickr. According to reports, the number of people working on Flickr at Yahoo's headquarters has doubled since Mayer joined the company, as the firm has made the image sharing service a top priority.
