SMARTPHONE DESIGNER Google's Nexus 4 handset is sold out once again in the UK, which means that buyers might not be able to get one in time for Christmas.

The Google Play store is now showing that it has completely sold out of 8GB Google Nexus 4 handsets just hours after the phone went back on sale in the UK. Buyers can still pick up the somewhat more expensive 16GB model however, although the store is saying that this will be shipped in five to six weeks.

It's unclear when Google will be receiving its next batch of Nexus 4 handsets, and it has yet to respond to our request for comment.

It's not surprising that the Google Nexus 4 has sold out once again, as despite the handset's high-end specifications sheet, as it massively undercuts its rivals' pricing. The Nexus 4 8GB model is priced at a mere £239 SIM-free, while the 16GB model costs £279.

You're certainly getting a lot for your money, as the handset features a 4.7in HD IPS display, a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and the latest version of Google's mobile operating system, Android 4.2 Jelly Bean.

There's also an 8MP rear-facing camera, a front-facing video call camera and a 2,100mAh battery. µ
