The Dandy comic goes online only

VETERAN UK COMIC BOOK The Dandy will no longer appear in print, and after this week's issue it will be a digital only release.

After 75 long years, the day of The Dandy in print has gone and its last issue is in stores.

After they sell out, that will be it and no more will The Dandy sit in the sweetshop, it is gone from the satchel and school desk, and gone is its inky Bananaman.

Instead there is the new Dandy, the digital Dandy, the tablet and web browser based version that costs £1.50 an issue or £30 for a full year pass.

Issue Zero, the first digital copy, is free now and includes the pie eating adventures of Desperate Dan, the crime fighting antics of Bananaman and the cranium adventures of the Numskulls. New characters join the new format, and they are a clutch of superheroes called Retroactive.

It is a shame to see The Dandy go. When it came to comics The Dandy, along with Beano, were kings. DC Thomson announced the closure this Summer, and said that it had been warmed by the social media campaign to keep The Dandy in print.

Predictably this last issue of The Dandy is selling like hot cakes, and we could not find a copy in our vicinity. µ
