TAIWANESE PHONE MAKER HTC's mid-range Windows Phone 8 handset, the HTC Windows Phone 8S, has gone up for preorder at Carphone Warehouse.

The retailer is offering the HTC Windows Phone 8S only in blue, so you'll have to go elsewhere if you fancy the black/white, yellow/grey or red/orange model.

The retailer's choice of tariffs isn't all that great either, as Carphone Warehouse is offering the phone on just two tariffs. If you're after a free HTC Windows Phone 8S you'll have to opt for the 24 month £21 Vodafone tariff, which comes with 100 minutes, unlimited texts and 100MB of monthly data.

Alternatively, you can hand over £100 for the HTC Windows Phone 8S and get a cheaper two-year £17 Vodafone contract.

Carphone Warehouse is also selling the phone SIM-free for £229.95, and is promising to start shipping it from the week beginning 3 December.

If you can't decide whether to preorder yours, here's a quick recap of the handset's specifications. The HTC Windows Phone 8S features a 4in WVGA screen, a 1GHz dual-core processor, a 5MP rear-facing camera, integrated Beats Audio technology and storage that's expandable via microSD card.

Once it's released at the beginning of December, the HTC Windows Phone 8S will be available to buy on the O2, Orange and Three mobile networks.
