THE WINDOWS PHONE 8 powered Samsung Ativ S is available to preorder on the Vodafone mobile network, courtesy of Phones 4U.

Over on the retailer's website, the Samsung Ativ S is available to pick up for free on a 24 month £33 Vodafone contract, complete with 600 minutes, unlimited texts and 500MB of monthly data. Bump this to £34 a month with an upfront cost of £29.99, and the Ativ S will come with unlimited minutes and 2GB of data.

Phones 4U's listing also gives us yet more confirmation that Samsung has delayed the handset's release date by a month, as it is promising to ship on 21 December - bad news for those who want one guaranteed to arrive in time for Christmas.

However, according to SIM free retailer Clove, which is offering the Samsung Ativ S for £442.80 unlocked, the handset will start shipping in the UK on the week commencing 10 December. We've asked Samsung for clarification.

We're yet to find out why the Ativ S has been delayed, but Samsung told The INQUIRER last week, "The launch of Samsung Ativ S in the UK is scheduled in December. We will be bringing our customers a unique and best-in-class Windows Phone 8 experience."

Check out our Samsung Ativ S hands-on review. µ
