VOICE OVER IP (VoIP) and chat service Skype has updated its IOS client app with support for the Iphone 5's 4in screen.
The updated app, Skype 4.1.2 for IOS, means that users don't have to put up with black lines at the top and bottom of the screen anymore, as Skype has rejigged it to fit the Iphone 5's 4in Retina display.
We downloaded the app update, and although we were pleased to see that Skype now fills the display of our two month old Iphone 5, most of the additional screen real estate is filled with an unsightly banner ad.
It doesn't appear as though Skype has included any other improvements in the app update, besides the usual handful of bug fixes.
Skype's IOS update comes just hours after it finally released an app for Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 operating system. Although it is little more than a Preview release, we tested the app and were won over by its fluid user interface, resizable Live Tile and ability to sync with the People Hub.
Of course it comes with all of the usual Skype functionality, including the abilities to make free video and voice calls as well as send and receive free instant messages.
New UI, expanded radio and hopefully a fix for that Xzibit bug
