UK MOBILE RETAILER Carphone Warehouse has kicked off preorders for the Nokia Lumia 820 handset, ahead of its release on 7 November.

Carphone Warehouse has undercut its rival Phones 4U when it comes to pricing the Lumia 820. Available on contracts with O2, Orange and Vodafone, it can be picked up for free at Carphone Warehouse on a £29 24 month contract complete with 600 minutes, unlimited texts and 100MB of monthly data. The Nokia Lumia 820 is also available to buy SIM free, costing £379.95.

The retailer is looking to lure punters by chucking in a free wireless charging plate, worth £44.99.

In terms of specifications, the Nokia Lumia 820 is a scaled down version of the Lumia 920 that will be released in the UK on 2 November. The Lumia 820 features a 4.3in 480x800 Clearblack display, and has a 1.5GHz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor and Microsoft's Windows Phone 8 mobile operating system.

There's also an 8MP rear-facing camera with Carl Zeiss lens and dual-LED flash, a VGA front-facing camera, 8GB of internal storage expandable to 32GB via microSD, a 1,650mAh battery and support for wireless charging. The phone is available to order in three colours - black, white and red.
