IT LOOKS LIKE Apple fans have collectively flocked to buy the Ipad Mini, as shipping time for the miniature tablet has already slipped to two weeks.
Apple started taking preorders for the Ipad Mini today and customers have been quick to snap up the pint-sized tablet, with shipping time slipping from 2 November to "two weeks" for the 16GB WiFi-only black Ipad Mini and all versions of the tablet in white.
However, Apple is saying that the 32GB and 64GB black Ipad Mini models are still set to ship within one week, although units will only be dispatched in "some areas". It has yet to clarify what these areas are.
The fourth generation Ipad, which Apple named the "Ipad with Retina display", also went up for preorder today, but hasn't seen as much demand as its 7.9in sibling. Apple is promising that all models of the larger tablet will be shipping on 2 November, with 16GB, 32GB and 64GB models costing £399, £479 and £559, respectively.
It's worth noting that "cellular" models, meaning those that will work with 4G LTE networks here in the UK, won't start shipping until the end of next month.
Demand for Apple's new Ipad Mini comes as the company disappointed investors with lower than expected Ipad sales during its fourth fiscal quarter. However, analysts were quick to blame this on the wait for the Ipad Mini, so it looks like Apple might still be set to impress investors over the next three months. µ
