MOVIE STREAMING SERVICE Netflix announced today that it has passed 30 million members globally.
Surpassing its rival Lovefilm, which announced earlier this year that it had two million members, Netflix revealed that it has 25 million members in the US and an additional five million in Canada, Scandanavia and the UK.
Netflix CEO Reed Hastings blurted out the good news on Facebook. He said, "Thank you, thank you, thank you. Thirty million of you are now Netflix streaming members.
"I'd like to express my gratitude to each of you. Your choice to be a Netflix member helps us get more content every year, and helps us further improve our member experience.
"You make it possible for us to offer the most amazing television experience ever. Thank you, again," he added, earning for himself the title of the most polite technology company executive we've seen for a while in The INQUIRER's books.
Netflix, which first launched its DVD by mail service in the US over ten years ago, has taken the world by storm over the past couple of years.
This success has been spurred on by its global rollout and transition into the mobile market, letting subscribers watch shows on their smartphones and tablets. µ
