UK RETAILER Currys and PC World will become the first UK retailer to sell Windows 8 devices, with an exclusive midnight opening taking place at 00:01am on Friday 26 October.
As well as the promise of free tea or coffee, sausage rolls and doughnuts, the Tottenham Court Road branch in London is hoping to lure customers with discounts on Windows 8 kit. In fact, it's offering a whopping £400 discount on HP branded Windows 8 devices.
Currys explains, "The HP Pavilion G6 E2 with 6GB of RAM and a 750GB hard drive is selling for just £249; the HP Envy A6 with 4GB RAM and 500GB of memory is down £150 to £349; the Envy M6 i5 with 8GB RAM and 1TB [storage] is £300 off at just £399; and the DV7 [Intel Core] I7 with 6GB RAM and 1TB of [storage] is a massive £400 off, down to £599."
As if predicting a poor turnout, Currys' flagship London store is also offering free Beats Solo headphones worth £150 to the first 300 customers to buy a HP Windows 8 product, and a magician to keep the crowds entertained. Take that, Apple.
Ben Lovett, spokesperson for Currys & PC World said, "This is a major new development in computing technology and we are expecting really strong sales of Windows 8 products in the run-up to Christmas and beyond.
"With such fantastic launch offers from HP, the team at our Currys & PC World store on Tottenham Court Road is anticipating a long queue outside the store throughout Thursday evening in the run up to the 00:01 opening on Friday 26th October." µ
