Memjet launches super speedy office colour printer

PRINTER TECHNOLOGY VENDOR Memjet has announced what it claims is the world's fastest colour office printer in the UK today.

Manufactured by Lomond, the EvoJet 2 desktop printer churns out colour pages at speeds of one full colour page per second, based on the demo we saw.

Memjet says this is possible due to its stationary, page-wide print head that consists of a "unique nozzle and silicon chip design" and uses over 70,000 ink nozzles in order to beat print speeds of more traditional laser and inkjet printers.

Memjet is aiming the printer at small businesses that want to improve productivity in fast-paced office environments.

Memjet's VP of marketing Kim Beswick explained at the Evojet 2's launch event that offices aren't printing in colour because, for the last 20 years, it's been too slow and expensive.

"As a result, offices have been forced to print in black and white," she said.

Beswick said that with the Evojet Office 2 that's no longer a problem, because of the printer's more efficient use of ink along with its high speed A4 colour page printing capabilities.

Lemond's Evojet Office 2 will be available through an all-inclusive pricing model that allows businesses to control costs by offering the printer on a monthly "all-in" cost basis. As such, Memjet doesn't offer a retail price for the printer.

Memjet's partners supply the printer, the ink and the services to keep it running, allowing customers to print in full colour while maintaining a fixed budget for printing costs. µ
