Samsung announces cheap Galaxy Music phone

KOREAN HARDWARE MAKER Samsung announced its latest midrange smartphone today, named the Samsung Galaxy Music.

As the handset's name suggests, this phone is aimed at those partial to blasting out loud music on the back of the bus, thanks to its pair of front-facing speakers. According to Samsung, these annoying speakers "deliver outstanding sound quality, further bolstered by FM radio and advanced audio features such as Sound Alive & SRS".

The Samsung Galaxy Music is clearly targeting those after a cheap handset too, featuring a poor 3in 280x320 LCD screen, a 3MP rear-facing camera and 4GB of internal storage. Still, the phone does come running Google's fairly up to date Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich (ICS) mobile operating system, giving users access to the Google Play store and the usual barrage of built-in Samsung apps.

Bizarrely, the phone's specifications sheet also says that the handset features a 9 Lumen WVGA projector on its rear. However, we're assuming this is a slip-up, with a Samsung staffer confusing the device with the Galaxy Beam, and we're chasing the firm for further information.

Samsung has yet to announce the handset's pricing and availability, but has said it will also be offered as a dual-SIM model named, unsurprisingly, the Samsung Galaxy Music Duos. µ
