ONLINE MULTIPLAYER GAME World of Warcraft (WOW) players in Europe were hit by an incident over the weekend that resulted in the death of every character across various realms.
According to players complaining in a thread on the WOW forum, all characters in the Stormwind and Orgrimmar cities were killed, including non-player characters (NPCs). Players said that it also happened on Tarren Mill, Ragnaros, Draenor, Twisting Nether, and some other servers.
The game's publisher, Blizzard issued a statement hours after the incident was logged explaining that the problem was down to an "exploit" that has now been hotfixed, "so it should not be repeatable".
"As with any exploit, we are taking this disruptive action very seriously and conducting a thorough investigation," Blizzard's statement said. "We apologise for the inconvenience some of you experienced as a result of this and appreciate your understanding."
Blizzard didn't go into detail as to what type of exploit hit the game, with many players left wodnering if it was an external attack or simply a glitch in the software.
Despite players not knowing what happened, the game is now functioning as it should, according to reports. µ
